MTG Proxy Use Policy

This MTG Proxy Use Policy explains what you can (and cannot) do with proxy and playtest cards purchased from ProxyMTG (“we,” “us,” “our”). By ordering from ProxyMTG, you agree to follow this policy.

Plain-English summary: ProxyMTG prints proxy / playtest cards for casual play and playtesting where proxies are allowed. Not for sanctioned events. Do not represent, resell, or trade them as authentic Magic cards.

1) Definitions

“MTG” / “Magic: The Gathering” refers to the trading card game published by Wizards of the Coast.

“Proxy” / “Playtest card” means a card made to represent another card for testing, casual play, or personal reference, not an authentic, officially manufactured trading card.

“Sanctioned event” means an officially organized tournament or event governed by an official organizer’s rules (including Wizards-sanctioned play).

2) Intended Use (Allowed)

ProxyMTG products are intended for:

  • Playtesting decks before buying authentic cards

  • Casual play in home games, friend groups, or communities where proxies are allowed

  • Protecting originals (e.g., keeping expensive cards safe while using a proxy in sleeves)

  • Cube testing, brewing, and casual formats where your group allows proxies

  • Personal collection organization (placeholders, deckbox labels, tokens, etc.)

You are responsible for confirming that proxies are allowed in your play environment (store rules, event rules, playgroup rules, venue policies, etc.).

3) Prohibited Use (Not Allowed)

You may not use ProxyMTG products for:

  1. Sanctioned tournament play or any event where proxies are prohibited

  2. Misrepresentation — claiming or implying a ProxyMTG card is an authentic Magic card

  3. Resale or trade as authentic — selling, trading, or gifting our cards as if they are real

  4. Fraud or deception — including any attempt to pass a proxy as genuine, or to confuse buyers, judges, stores, or collectors

  5. Counterfeit intent — placing orders that appear designed to imitate authenticity marks or security features for deceptive purposes

We may refuse, cancel, or refund any order that (in our judgment) appears intended to violate this policy.

4) Product Notes: Print-on-Demand Transition + Customization

ProxyMTG is transitioning to a print-on-demand model. This enables new features such as custom backs and custom art, and may include printed “holo stamp” style graphics on certain designs.

A) Printed “Holo Stamp” Graphics (Important)

Some ProxyMTG designs may include a printed stamp-like graphic for style, personalization, or to emulate the look of a stamp.

  • These stamps are printed ink designs — not a holographic security feature and not an authentication mark.

  • They must not be used to imply authenticity.

  • We may require stamp designs to include clear proxy indicators (for example, “PROXY,” “PLAYTEST,” or similar) depending on product type.

Where offered, we strongly encourage (and may require) custom backs that are clearly distinct from authentic trading card backs.

  • Custom backs are one of the best ways to reduce confusion and prevent misuse.

  • We may limit or reject designs that closely mimic authentic card backs or appear intended to deceive.

C) Custom Art & User-Submitted Content

If you upload custom art, text, or designs, you confirm that:

  • You have the rights or permission to use that content, and

  • Your design does not violate laws or third-party rights (copyright, trademarks, publicity rights, etc.)

We reserve the right to reject or remove custom content that we believe infringes rights or violates our policies.

5) Clarity & Labeling Expectations

To keep proxies responsible and reduce confusion:

  • We encourage clear proxy indicators such as “PROXY” or “PLAYTEST” on the card back and/or in small print.

  • We may add or require proxy disclaimers in certain contexts (product lines, custom orders, bulk jobs, etc.) to prevent misuse.

  • If you request designs that reduce clarity or increase confusion, we may decline the order.

6) No Affiliation / No Endorsement

ProxyMTG is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Magic: The Gathering, or any related rights holders. Our products are printed for casual use and playtesting as described in this policy.

7) Enforcement

If we learn (or reasonably suspect) that ProxyMTG products are being used in violation of this policy, we may:

  • Cancel or refuse future orders

  • Limit customization options

  • Issue a refund and void fulfillment

  • Cooperate with lawful requests where required

8) Updates to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or operational improvements. The “Last Updated” date will change when updates are made. Continued use of the site after updates means you accept the revised policy.
