Overview
This printing of Ancient Copper Dragon brings the same Treasure-fueled gameplay without the borderless frame. Every combat connection rolls a d20 and showers you with Treasures equal to the result, translating evasive damage into mana and artifact synergies.
How it plays
Once on the battlefield, the plan is simple: give it haste or evasion, connect, then convert Treasures into overwhelming tempo. The card is at its best in decks that can benefit from both the mana and the artifacts—casting huge spells, feeding sacrifice engines, or enabling alternate wins. The die introduces variance, but the average output is massive across a couple of turns.
Decks & synergies
- Treasure & artifacts: Abuse payoffs like Revel in Riches, Academy Manufactor, Mayhem Devil, and cost reducers.
- Extra combats/haste: Aggravated Assault and Hellkite Charger create loops once Treasures start flowing; Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots secure the first hit.
- Dragon tribal: Use the mana spike to chain dragons or cast your top end while keeping interaction up.
- Token-matters: Professional Face-Breaker, Impulsive Pilferer, and sacrifice outlets scale with artifact tokens.
Sequencing & tips
Play around instant-speed answers by forcing interaction before combat or by holding protection. After a big roll, don’t forget Treasures can fix colors—leverage splashes and multi-spell turns. If the board is stalled, build toward a single protected swing rather than exposing the dragon early.
Formats
Premier threat in Commander and a favorite in dragon or Treasure-themed cubes. A casual powerhouse rather than a competitive constructed staple.
